The Lake Of 31 Miles

Took the 105 north out of Ottawa to Maniwaki
Turned off at Bouchette then left over le pont
Lingered a while watching the Gatineau flow
Wondering ‘where does it go?’
Cruising and taking it slow ..

Moving on slow through dusty roads weaving and winding
Heading across to “The lake of thirty-one miles”
Sun going down – finally reaching the end
Smiling I’m greeted by friends
Looks like it’s gonna be slow ..

Loon on the lake – Allan and Michael are swimming
Bethel and Vaughan are finishing reading their books
Linda and Gwen are winning each other at word games

Content ’round the fire on the shore you can hear the lake lapping
singing our songs as we muse with the stars looking on.

I just love that in the evening
in the summertime
you can wait ’till past eleven
just to watch the sun go down.
Then as if the hand of God Himself
would paint the sky,
see the fiery flames around it
as it melts on the horizon –
and welcomes all the stars!

From the early morning
to the shiny moon,
daybreak and daylight
give peace and hope.
On the waves of wheat,
– yeah on the shiny sea,
sunshine and God’s rays
will help me cope.

I just love that in the morning
in the summertime,
it’s so early when the sun awakes
to warm the windowpane.
and there’s something ’bout the joy
up in that clear blue sky,
makes it easy to imagine
all of mankind’s wounds will vanish.
There’ll be a healing of the scars.
